Naga weaving is one of India’s most powerful tribal textile traditions, practised for centuries by the women of Nagaland.
Woven entirely by hand on backstrap looms, each textile grows slowly, inch by inch, guided by the rhythm of the artisan’s body and breath.
Bold geometric motifs, strong stripes, and symbolic patterns represent clan identity, bravery, prosperity, and ancestral stories.
Traditional colours, deep red, black, and white, are derived from natural dyes, reflecting the land and its rituals.
Depending on the motif and size, a single Naga textile can take a week or several weeks to complete.
